The initiative proposes the construction of an underground pipeline infrastructure using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technology, which is minimally invasive. The initial project will be carried out in the central area of the National District, delimited by the following avenues: 27 de Febrero, Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy, and Ortega y Gasset. This initiative consists of a series of separate conduits at different depths for public services such as drinking water, sewage, electrical wiring, telecommunications wiring and gas pipelines.
The project aims to achieve the scope and characteristics of the private initiative called “Undergrounding of Public Utilities (natural gas, electricity, telecommunications, drinking water, sanitary sewage) in the National District.” It involves the installation of 300,000 linear meters of underground pipes with diameters ranging from 2 to 12 inches, potentially affecting an area of 4.26 km² in the central area of the National District. Approximately 90% of the affected streets will use Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technology, while the remaining 10% will involve traditional trenches. The entire construction process, including design and enabling permits, is expected to be completed within four (4) years.
